Sony SRF_S84
.
The Sony's sound is high fidelity on FM through these flat panel speakers from early 2000s. Here's a review of the speaker system from March 2003:
The reception sound of the Sony SRF_S84 is really incredible. List price is $150 but is available on Amazon and eBay sometimes for much less. Pure analog selectivity. Precision sound and bass response with mega bass option and Stereo FM. Difficult signals are optimized by the mono FM setting. The S84 is ridiculously small - easily the smallest radio with this much punch. You would be hard pressed to find better audio in most consumer grade receivers.
The S84 uses the same chip as the famed Sony SRF-59 analog radio, which is still available and now iconic for MW AM dx. Where the S84 earns its premium is on the FM band with stellar performance in sensitivity, selectivity, and sheer precision audio. Everything you hear is clear and selected, like AFC on a radio like the Sony TFM-8000. The signal sounds like it's sucked into reception. Antenna on FM is provided by speaker wire or a pair of headphones.
